Finance Director

The Town of Rutherfordton is seeking an experienced local government financial management professional who is grounded in the values of public service, ethics, and exceptional customer service, for the performance of financial oversight for the Town. This position is part of the Town’s Leadership team with the direct responsibility of the Town’s fiscal management operations to include general accounting, payroll, accounts receivable and payable, budgeting, audit preparation, and other general administrative duties. The Finance director also serves as the Human Resource Officer for the Town. The position supervises one accounting/payroll tech, but also performs multifaceted leadership duties under the supervision of the Town Manager.


 A Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or business management is required.  Preference will be given for Master’s degree in accounting, business, public administration or related field as well as certification as a Certified Public Accountant and/or Certified North Carolina Local Government Finance Officer. Must pass a background check and must be bondable. Hiring range: $45,000- $60,000. Salary based on experience and qualifications. Excellent benefits package.

Police Officer

The Rutherfordton Police Department is currently seeking candidates for the position of a police officer.

The Town of Rutherfordton has been listed as one of the top 50 safest cities in North Carolina for the past 3 years. In addition to being one of the state’s safest cities, Rutherfordton is one of the oldest towns in Western North Carolina, and its people are full of pride. Rutherfordton offers an abundance of cultural & creative arts, endless outdoor recreation, and a downtown that still serves as the heart of the community.

 Minimum Requirements include High School Diploma, a valid North Carolina driver’s license, and North Carolina BLET certification required. Candidates must pass a stringent background check, a physical (including drug screening). College degree, prior law enforcement or prior military preferred but not required.

 The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, ethical; team oriented and dedicated to the principals of community-oriented policing. The officer will be required to perform any legal task assigned to the officer by the Police Chief and will be assigned to the patrol division of the department. New hires will be required to complete a one (1) year probationary period.
