Alan Herrick
Alan Herrick is a dedicated community member who brings a strong sense of service, fiscal responsibility, and social awareness to the Rutherfordton Town Council. Born and raised in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, Alan was instilled with the values of community engagement, which have shaped his approach to public service. With a background in Parks & Recreation Administration from Western Kentucky University and a career in Psychiatric/Behavioral Health Services, Alan retired as the Accelerated Learning Lab Coordinator at REaCH High School.
As a fiscal conservative and active listener, Alan is committed to diversifying Rutherfordton’s tax base, improving the town’s appearance, stabilizing the business district, and encouraging new growth. He believes in working collaboratively with town leaders, staff, and citizens to address community needs through thoughtful, solution-oriented dialogue. Alan’s leadership is rooted in the principle of doing what’s best for the greatest number of people.
A longtime resident of Rutherfordton for over 36 years, Alan has been involved in several community organizations, including the Rutherford Outdoor Coalition, Rutherford Housing Partnership, and Teal Diva. He also serves on the Rutherfordton Recreation Committee and Rutherford Town Rising (RTR) in council-appointed positions. Alan is married to Lori Herrick, a father, and an avid sports enthusiast, kayaker, and gardener. He looks forward to continuing to serve the community he calls home.
