Join the Town of Rutherfordton in the first Until It’s Done Celebration to raise awareness about Cystic Fibrosis through a Community Wellness Fair, Duck Dash Derby, and Movies in the Park.
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited life-threatening disorder that causes the mucus in the body to be thicker, which ultimately damages the lungs and digestive system. There are about 40,000 children and adults living with CF in the US, but there are many families in the Rutherfordton community that are affected by this disease.
In 1955, most children with CF did live long enough to attend elementary school. But now, the median age of survival is 53 years. This spike in survival for CF patients is due to the fundraising and commitment of the CF Community and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The Foundation supports fundamental research that has led to groundbreaking discoveries, like the creation of CFTR modulators that helps the underlying deficits of CF.
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is committed to finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis and caring for the people affected by the disease by funding research, providing care, and supporting individuals and families.
The Town of Rutherfordton is excited to host a family-friendly day of fun to raise awareness about organizations and businesses that are dedicated to creating a healthier community through the Community Wellness Fair. As Cystic Fibrosis is an incredibly complex disease, we understand the importance of holistic health. Every person is different, but everyone must eat healthy, exercise, practice self-care, and maintain good mental health to be healthy.
The Until It’s Done Celebration includes a Community Wellness Fair, Duck Dash Derby, and a Movie in the Park on September 9th. The Wellness Fair is our initiative to improve the quality of life and health of our community by showcasing a comprehensive and holistic list of healthy resources throughout our community. Participating vendors can offer different activities that promote wellness such as health screenings, exercise demos, pop-up Farmer’s Markets, etc.
The Duck Dash Derby will immediately follow the conclusion of the Community Wellness Fair at 7 pm. Rubber ducks can be purchased up until the start of the race for $5 at Town Hall (129 N. Main St) or until sold out. This year’s race will have three separate heats of duck action!
Admission for the entire day is free to the public. Organizations who wish to have a booth during the Community Wellness Fair can register online at https://secure.rec1.com/NC/rutherfordton-nc-/catalog. A vendor fee of $50 will be charged and will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
